What is a Himalayan Salt Lamp?
Himalayan Salt Lamps are Big Chunks of Himalayan Salt that are chiseled & have a hole inside the bottom for a bulb, like this one. Or, a basket full of smaller pieces with a light bulb in the center like this one.
They have a beautiful pinkish-orange glow that is so soothing.
When purchasing a Himalayan Salt Lamp, make sure it is pure food grade Himalayan Salt & not made from rock salt.
When I first heard of Himalayan Salt Lamps & their benefits, I had to have one. I liked it so much that I bought one for every room. I even bought one for the powder room because I loved the warm glow that it put out. It also made the room smell of salt air! (Think Beach)
One of the most important reasons, personally, of having Himalayan Salt Lamps is for the reduction of radiation emitted from our cell phones, I-pads, computers, tv’s, etc…
I have one for each of my nightstands (because we seemed to always be on our I-pads or phones reading before bed) & one on my desk by my computer. I also have them in the living room near the TV, in my daughter’s room (you know, they are always on their phones) & in the basement where she hangs out watching TV with her friends.

How does it work?
Himalayan Salt Lamps produce negative ions when heated.
WebMD explains some of the benefits of negative ions:
“Generally speaking, negative ions increase the flow of oxygen to the brain; resulting in higher alertness, decreased drowsiness, and more mental energy,” says Pierce J. Howard, PhD, author of The Owners Manual for the Brain: Everyday Applications from Mind Brain Research and director of research at the Center for Applied Cognitive Sciences in Charlotte, N.C.“They also may protect against germs in the air, resulting in decreased irritation due to inhaling various particles that make you sneeze, cough, or have a throat irritation.”And for a whopping one in three of us who are sensitive to their effects, negative ions can make us feel like we are walking on air. You are one of them if you feel instantly refreshed the moment you open a window and breathe in fresh, humid air
What are Ions?
“An ion is an atom or molecule in which the total number of electrons is not equal to the total number of protons, giving the atom a net positive or negative electrical charge.”
Why is this important?
are created by pet dander, cigarette smoke, pollen, dust, electronic devices like computers, TVs, smartphones, I-pads, microwaves, and even vacuum cleaners. This can create illness, allergies, depression, irritability, migraines, exhaustion, moodiness, poor sleep & slow recovery from illness.
can neutralize positive ions (they bond together) and help cleanse the air, therefore offsetting the ill effects of the positive ions.
If you have any of the symptoms above, try a Himalayan Salt Lamp. Not only does it make you feel better, but you will love the glow that it produces. Just looking at it calms me from a stressful day. It reminds me of being at the spa.
