One of the world’s most popular essential oils is Frankincense Oil. Frankincense comes from the resin of the Boswellia species of trees that are indigenous to the Middle East, India, Africa, and China.  Boswellia is one of the most powerful, natural anti-inflammatories on the planet. Not only is it effective, but it’s very gentle on the body.

The word Frankincense comes from “franc encens,” which means ‘quality incense’ in old French. One of themost popular stories of all times is in the Christian religion, as Frankincense was one of the gifts given to Jesus by the three wise men. It was considered more valuable than Gold.

For thousands of years, Frankincense has been used for many other uses other than just being an anointing oil. It was also used to support the immune system, fight infection and cure disease, even as a potential natural treatment for cancer.

Frankincense was used as a natural immune booster in those days. On the more wealthy children, they would rub it on their chest & body & it would have supported them from getting infections or viruses.

Layering Frankincense Oil over other essential oils enhances that oil’s properties and drives the oils deeper into the cells.

What are Carrier Oils?

Because Essential Oils are so concentrated, you need to dilute most oils with a carrier oil. Dilution increases the surface area of absorption and certain oils can prevent sensitivities.

Bonus: Anti-Aging Serum Recipe:

I make my own anti-aging moisturizer. My age/sun spots on my face & hands have totally disappeared! My husband was so impressed he has started using it too! Shhh, don’t tell anyone. I double the recipe now & use these 4 oz pump bottles

Just recently, I went out of town & my husband told me that I had to make him a separate bottle if I wasn’t home. He said he couldn’t stand the way his face felt without it anymore. LOL

Ingredients:

Directions:

    • Mix all of the ingredients together into a dark glass bottle. Shake well.
    • Use every morning and night on face, neck & chest. I also use it on my hands. My age/sun spots have completely disappeared.

*For most people, it is recommended to do 10% dilution.  That equals 5 drops of essential oil per 1/2 teaspoon of carrier oil

I love the smell of frankincense. I am one of those people that mosquitoes love to bite. Lately we’ve added no see ums to the list of things that want to bite me. The bites itch for days until I scratch them open and they leave deep bloody wounds that take weeks to heal. I’ve started rubbing frankincense directly onto the bite area. Itching stops almost immediately. I may need to apply one or two more times over the next day but then the bite is completely gone in two days. Just nothing.

    • Colleen Hunter says:

Hi Cheryl, mosquitoes love me too. What works for me is as soon as you realize you are bitten to immediately use soap with as much hot water as you can stand on the bites with a wash rag. I scrub the area. I think it washes away a lot of the poison. It always works for me.

I deal with a lot of inflammation, and fungus in my toes. I have a bottle of Premium Grade 100% Frankincense Oil. How much of this product would I use with any of the carrier oils?

I enjoyed ready your article. It was very informative.

    • Renee' says:

Hi Elizabeth, Mix 5 drops of essential oil per 1/2 teaspoon of carrier oil. I would personally mix 3 drops of tea tree & 2 drops frankincense in castor oil or another carrier oil. My husband has the same issue & I mix up a bigger batch in a pump bottle for him.

  3. So very interested in how to use oils for adhd. My grandson just got diagnosed.
He also has an autoimmune condition called EOE. Is there anything for that?

Thanks so much for the info!

    • Renee' says:

Hi Kathy, My daughter has ADD & we use it in a diffuser. As far as the EOE, I am not familiar with it. My daughter also has 2 autoimmune diseases & I have at least 3 & possible a couple more. The best thing we did was go on the AIP diet (autoimmune protocol). Read my story here https://www.thehealthnutmama.com/about/ and also check out this article https://www.thehealthnutmama.com/how-did-you-go-aip-paleo/ I personally believe all autoimmune diseases can be helped by this diet. Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

Essential oils are great and help with a lot of stuff, but has anyone tried to do a heavy metal detox and a parasite cleanse on your grandson? I do believe that would help my son would go wild and he also wouldn’t speak when he was supposed to. I started a heavy metal detox and everything got better.

I just purchased Frankincense oil 100% pure. My husband had an upset stomach I put 2 drops in a table spoon of honey. Almost immediately he was fine. I am so interested in trying your serum for dark spots.

  5. Pam Hahn says:

I recently listened to a woman talk about putting castor oil in her belly button because of the access it has to all pars of the body. I thought , why not frankincense. I have a fungus in my abdominal area and under my breasts. It is a constant battle. So, I put 1 drop in my b button and within a few minutes the discomfort was gone. I used it 4 times in 24 hours. Most of the redness and irritation are gone! My face just glows. I have fibro, sciatica, bulging discs in my lower back and I cannot stand up straight or walk without being bent over. I also had a hip replacement that could have gone bettrr. I am putting this technique to the test! I pray to God it helps!

    • Renee' says:

Hi Pam, It’s funny that you posted this. I too have heard the same thing about the castor oil & have been putting a drop in my belly button also. Didn’t think about adding the Franincense oil! Brilliant! I will start doing that tonight. Thanks for posting about this. Hopefully it will help others.

  6. Pat says:

I would like to make your moisturizer, but am afraid that it would be too oily for my face. I like the fact I can add frankincense to my current moisturizer though.

    • Renee' says:

I was afraid it would be too oily also but was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t. It soaks into the skin & feels so good. I do have dry skin & it soaks it up. My husband hates the greasy feel but loves the way this feels. When he runs out he will ask me to make more. Maybe try making 1/2 the amount & try it for a week or so & see if you like it. After about 5-10 minutes, if it still feels oily, just wipe off excess with a cloth.

  7. Susan says:

I use Frankincense in a beeswax salve for my psoriasis. It helps a lot. I love making salves and oils for different things 🙂

  8. Amy says:

Just found your post! Fantastic info! Thank you so very much for laying it all out perfectly! I can’t wait to make the face moisturizer. I’m ordering from your links.,

    Thanks again!

  9. Danielle D Chambers says:

I just ordered all these. I am confused on the Almond oil. What does 1-11/2oz mean? Many many drops do I use for Almond oil? This is a great read. I had already ordered Frankincense oil a few days ago just waiting on it. Now that I read all of this, I am excited to try it on my feet and neck. Can’t wait to make your moisturizer. Thank you for your information. 🙂 Danielle

        • Renee' says:

Hi Carmen, Not dense at all. It is a little confusing. You can use 1 oz or up to 1 & 1/2 oz. Depending on how much you want to make. Hope that clarify’s it. I actually have a 4 oz. bottle that I use so that I don’t have to make as often. lol

  10. Harvey says:

Frankincense oil is renowned for its powerful, purifying properties. It is brilliant for many skin problems and infections because of the many active ingredients present in it.

  11. Sarah A says:

We use frankincense for everything in our house, but mist especially on my daughter’s head. Since frankincense is high in sesquiterpenes, it allows it to penetrate the blood brain barrier, which is another reason it is so good for the brain and all things thinking/learning/processing. My daughter has some significant learning challenges and frankincense (on top as well as at the brain stem) has been a total game changer. Difference is immediately noticeable!

    • Renee' says:

Sarah, Thank you so much for the comment. That is awesome. Do you use a carrier oil or straight? I am going to try this for my daughter. She has mild ADD (focus). Changing her diet helped tremendously. This is a great suggestion. Thanks for sharing.

  12. Patti Standridge says:

I have been wondering about how to use essential oils. This post has answered so many of my questions… I have seen charts and more charts with what oil for what condition with a carrier oil.. it’s been confusing at best… Now that I have a much better understanding of how to use them , the charts can be helpful. .. THANK YOU…

    • Renee' says:

      Patti,
Thanks for your comment. I too have just started using them myself in the last few months. I’m with you about the charts. After using them, I have become a big believer in them. I’m glad my post was helpful!
