I wanted to share How to Freeze Green Beans for long-term storage so that you can preserve all those wonderful green beans that are so abundant this season. I normally Can them to save on freezer space but this year there seems to be a shortage of canning lids & supplies. I didn’t want any of these to go to waste so when I ran out of lids I decided to freeze the rest.
I love to saute whole green beans with garlic & onions so I left them whole. You can totally break them & freeze them the same way. Sometimes I add a little balsamic vinegar to the sauteed green beans too. So yummy!
Ingredients:
- Green Beans either whole or strung & broken (I did mine whole)
Tools Needed:
- Freezer Bags or Vaccum Seal/bags
- Large Pot for bringing water to boil
- Large Stainless Steel Bowl or Large Pot for Ice Water
- Paper Towels or Towels
Directions:
- Wash & string green beans. I left mine whole. You can leave whole or break.
- Bring a Large Pot of water to boil
- Add green beans & bring back to boil
- Remove from heat & drain
- Immediately put in ice water to stop the cooking process
- Drain when cool
- Spread on Paper towels or cloth towel to dry
- Put in freezer bags, remove as much air as possible. If you have a vacuum seal that is great.
- Make sure to date bags before putting in Freezer. Trust me, you will be glad you did!
