Once I decided to go AIP, (that was the hardest part, I think). Read here why & how I decided to go Paleo & AIP. I had to get rid of all the foods that caused inflammation. I hate throwing away anything that someone could possibly use. Especially food. But once I made up my mind to go on the Paleo AIP diet, it all had to go.
I have a relative that is on a strict budget & on disability, so I called her to see if she wanted any items before I donated them to charity or threw them in the trash. She was happy to take the items that I no longer needed. It made me feel really good that I had helped someone in need.
It was a cleansing. The more I got rid of, the easier it got. I felt like I was getting rid of the poison in my house. Not to mention, cleaning & organizing my pantry! That was a plus! And you know how nasty the bottom of the freezer gets. Well, it looks like new again!
- I started with the obvious, grains, flour, sugar, oats, cornmeal etc…
- The canned & boxed items (mac & cheese, pasta, cereals, etc.)
- Then the junk food. (no explanation here)
- Then on to the freezer & fridge.
I took each one & began emptying until there was basically, nothing left to eat in the house!
After I had removed everything that was no longer needed, I went grocery shopping to restock my pantry. Everyone loves shopping, right?
The first trip to the store was a little overwhelming. I was there for 3-4 hours reading every label before putting anything in the cart. It was amazing to me how much I put back on the shelves. What was more disturbing, was what I had been feeding my family, that I thought was healthy! Talking about Eye Opening!
We were so used to convenience foods. That totally became a thing of the past. Who knew that there was so much “junk” in everything we eat. After a few trips & educating myself as to what we could & could not eat, it became a habit.
I actually save more time now because I can just hit the organic produce section, the “specialty food” section & the organic meat section. In & out so quickly. No more, going up & down the aisles. It never takes more than 15-20 min.
Any specialty items that I need that I can’t get at my local grocery store I get from Amazon or Thrive Market. I also shop at Costco & Costco online. It saves me so much time & money.
